Barielle Brilliant Colors Collection

Barielle sent their Brilliant Colors collection for review. This consists of five cream polishes in mostly summery colors with names that seem to have a "back to school" theme, which is fitting for this time of year as pretty much every store I've been in recently has turned their seasonal aisle over to school supplies. Shades are: High Marks Purple, Straight A Coral, Smarty Pants Pink, Magna Cum Laude Turquoise, and Head of the Class Green.

High Marks Purple is a warm toned plummy purple. This is described on Barielle's website as a "rich, creamy, neon purple", but I didn't find it nearly bright enough to be called neon. It was opaque in two coats (so not really suitable for layering over white as most neons are) and dried glossy without the aid of topcoat (another piece of evidence in the not neon column). I wore it with an accent of Smarty Pants Pink, which the website calls a "rich, neon, creamy purple", of which I agree only with the creamy part. I'd describe Smarty Pants Pink as a cool-toned medium pink. I used three coats of it, no topcoat, for this swatch.

I paired Head of the Class Green, a slightly blue-leaning medium green, with Magna Cum Laude Turquoise, a medium sky blue, for an accent. The green is two coats and the blue is three, both without topcoat. The Barielle website calls these neon, too. They are not neon. What they are is prone to staining. After I used my regular acteone-based remover, I had to scrub with toothpaste to get the skin around my nails back to its normal color. Be sure to use a nice thick base coat (or coats) with these two.

Straight A Coral was the odd polish out when I was assigning partners, so it got an accent nail with dots of the green and blue. I used three coats of the Coral, again skipping topcoat.

The Barielle website's description for Straight A Coral is just baffling; here's a screenclip:

Yes, that says "creamy neon green". Obviously something went wrong with the website editing/review process.

On the Barielle website, you can buy the Brilliant Colors collection as a set for $25 or get the individual polishes for $8 each. The Barielle Facebook page is a good source for announcements about sales and free shipping offers.

The polishes shown in this entry were provided free for review purposes. The content of the entry was not dictated by the provider.

  1. LMAO! at creamy neon green! These shade all look very pretty, and seem great for back to school, honestly they just all look done. We've seen them all before type of deal. However I love how you paired them up.

  5. LOL wow. I think they should hang out with the people of Maybelline who call their duochrome polishes holographic. Then again, maybe they all have been hanging out over some tequila shots. I do love the dotticure mani even if they aren't neons!
